What is an Independent Medical Evaluation (IME)?

An IME (Independent Medical Evaluation) is an evaluation completed by an independent medical physician who has no prior knowledge or interaction with the patient.

Who are typical IME clients?

Client include attorneys, case managers, insurance companies, the federal government and individual patients.

Why do I need an IME?

IMEs can answer many questions regarding individual cases including causation; permanent impairment; permanent restrictions; ongoing treatment needs; and other issues.

What is the typical IME process?

After scheduling an IME, the IME physician will personally see and evaluate the patient. completing a thorough history and physical examination. All provided medical records will be reviewed and summarized. After the evaluation, a report will be generated and sent to the requesting party.

How do I request an evaluation?

Medical records may be sent to rbroghammer@aol.com or via secure link. Paper records are acceptable but not preferred.

What are your fees? Do you offer flat rate billing?

IME fees are typically based on the time (or anticipated time) spent reviewing medical records, interviewing and examining patients, answering questions including calculating impairments and preparing and dictating reports. Flat fees are base on the volume of medical records and number of questions asked. Please contact me for fees.

When will I receive my report?

Report turnaround is dependent on transcription turnaround, typically 4-6 business days. Expedited reports are available with turnaround time of 24-48 hours.

Where are IMEs completed?

Offices are located in Cedar Rapids, IA; Des Moines, IA; Greenwood Village, CO; Milwaukee, WI; Appleton WI; and Eau Claire, WI. There is availability for other locations with special arrangement, please contact me with any special requests.

What about depostions and trial?

I have completed many depositions and testified at live trial in several cases. Please contact me with requests for deposition and trial testimony given over the last 10 years.

Where are you licensed?

Licenses include Iowa, 33896, Colorado, 54410, and Wisconsin, 63895-20.

Are you trained in the AMA Guides?

I am trained in the American Medical Association's Guides the the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment 3rd edition Revised; the 5th edition; and the 6th edition. I am also familiar with and have used the Wisconsin Disabilty handbook.

How long have you been doing IMEs?

My first IME was completed in 2005. Since then I have completed well over 1000 IMEs and as many chart reviews.

Are you still involved in clinical practice?

Unlike many other IME examiners, I still have an active clinical practice at Medicine for Business and Industry in Aurora, Colorado. You may contact me there at 303-365-4646.
